EXD is finally available!
April 16, 2026by vr_marco

EXD is out today.
Four years ago, EXD was just an ambitious idea born from a love for virtual reality. Today, that vision has become reality, and you can finally play it.Masterpieces like Half-Life: Alyx and Lone Echo taught me that VR is a new language, a different way to experience stories. With this belief, I brought together a small team of extraordinary artists who gave everything to this project.

From concept to reality
I still remember Tommaso’s first drawing: in a single stroke, he gave shape to Erath. Then came the sculptures, they were so alive and powerful that we decided to bring them directly into the game, preserving that handcrafted soul that I hope you will feel in every environment.A special thanks to the team: Marco Ghislanzoni: The genius who programmed EXD’s code.Dennis Cabella: For elevating both the technical and artistic sides.
Max Rudy Magni: For giving voice and sound to this adventure.
Andrea Navicella (Spaceship): For the hand-crafted cinematic animations.
Giovanni Shull: For the technical miracles you will see on screen.
Annamaria De Pasquale: For keeping the entire project on track.Thank you to all of you who will choose to immerse yourselves in this world. EXD is a piece of our heart, now it’s in your hands.See you in the other dimension.

Technical Notes
EXD - Extra Dimensional is powered by realistic graphics, physics and gameplay interactions. Making all of this happen at each frame, in VR, at least 72 times per second so you can enjoy it at its best, is no small feat.Even though we tested EXD on a large variety of CPUs, GPUs, VR headsets and VR runtimes, we are pretty sure we did not cover 100% of the possible combinations.Physics and Stability
While you are playing EXD, something may go wrong from time to time. The physics may glitch if you push it too hard or if your computer experiences a sudden hitch at exactly the wrong time (antivirus, anyone?). If it happens, it should go away quickly. But if you find yourself stuck in some really weird way, your best option is to open the in-game menu (long press on Y) and select Reload Last Checkpoint. EXD saves automatically before any crucial gameplay moment and after major achievements, so you will not lose your progress.Supported Configurations
EXD is best experienced via SteamVR. The following configurations are supported and highly recommended:Steam / SteamVR runtimeVirtual Desktop / SteamVR runtimeSteam LinkMeta Horizon Link (Oculus runtime)OpenXR (at your own risk)
There is also a way to force EXD to use OpenXR directly, for example if you want to play via Virtual Desktop using VDXR or via Steam's OpenXR runtime. These configurations, while available, are unsupported and may lead to lower performance and even crashes. Use them at your own risk. Now that you know how EXD works, the best thing you can do is start it up and enjoy it to the fullest.Marco GhislanzoniTechnical Director
